Brazilian prisons are a time bomb. There are more than 750,000 people behind bars, living in unsanitary conditions and in overcrowded spaces, subject to criminal factions and state violence. The tightening of criminal policy deepens the prison crisis and racial inequality, burdens the state and offers no security to the society.

Black men are the majority in prisons, but they are also the prime target for abusive police actions. In Brazil, the rights of black and peripheral populations are violated on a daily basis. The war on drugs promotes the violent occupation of favelas, imposes a daily war on thousands of families and takes the lives of many young people.
