Mission to Venezuela

Latin American NGOs meet with the country’s political and social actors Latin American NGOs meet with the country’s political and social actors

CELS (Center for Legal and Social Studies, Argentina), Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo – Founding Line (Argentina), Conectas Human Rights (Brazil), Fundar Center for Research and Analysis (Mexico) and WOLA (Washington Office on Latin America, United States) will visit Venezuela from July 27 to August 1, 2014.

As a result of the violence and repression that has occurred on account of the protests in the country, the intention of the organizations is to have first-hand contact with the situation on the ground. With this purpose in mind, the organizations will meet with representatives of government and with actors from the whole political spectrum, such as activists, academics, human rights organizations and social movements.

CELS, Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, Conectas, Fundar and WOLA hope that their presence in Venezuela will help build bridges between the country’s different social and political actors and that countries from the region will increase their participation in the process.
