The call for papers is open for the 22nd edition of the Sur Journal, which will published in December 2015. Contributions can be submitted until 30th August and should follow the guidelines set out in the call for papers. Within the scope of human rights, but without a specific theme, there is a preference for texts based on empirical research or first-hand experience.

The texts should be between 7,000 and 20,000 characters with spaces and should fall within one of the following categories below:

    • Essays: In-depth analysis of any contemporary human rights topic, with a preference for essays dealing with issues of transnational significance and/or bringing a comparative perspective from different countries.

    • Case studies: Texts on the implementation of advocacy strategies, litigation and other experiences and which analyse the impact of these strategies.

    • Institutional reflections: Shorter pieces about management, evaluation, fundraising and sustainability within the field of human rights.

Sur 21, which will be published online in August, will feature texts that were produced according to the guidelines above.

“Conectas used its experience of the preparation of Sur 20 to reflect on the human rights movement, but also to think about how to strengthen the mission of the Journal. That is why we are encouraging the publication of texts that discuss innovative experiences and that reflect on practice” explains Ana Cernov, South-South programme coordinator.

Sur Journal has been published by Conectas in three languages (Portuguese, English and Spanish) since 2004. Its goal is to influence the global human rights agenda by producing, fostering and disseminating innovative research and ideas, primarily from the Global South, on human rights practice. Over the last ten years more than 220 articles have been published from 50 countries. The full content of all previous editions can be accessed here.
