Submissions will be accepted for the 45th edition of the Vladimir Herzog Award for Amnesty and Human Rights, up to 31 July

Throughout the month of July, journalists, illustrators and photographic reporters from all over Brazil will be able to submit their work and compete for the 45th Vladimir Herzog Award for Amnesty and Human Rights. 

The Vladimir Herzog Award is considered to be one of the most significant distinctions in the field of journalism in Brazil. Its scope is nationwide and every year it recognises works that defend and validate Human Rights. There are 7 categories of work:   

Registration Categories:

  • Written journalism = Written reports published in print or on electronic media
  • Audio journalism = Audio reports or documentaries
  • Video journalism = Video reports or documentaries
  • Multimedia journalism = Multimedia reports published on the internet
  • Photography = Photographic or photographic series published in print or on electronic media
  • Artwork = Illustrations, cartoons, caricatures and cartoon strips published in print or on electronic media
  • Non-fiction book = Books edited and released in 2022

Simply fill in registration form and follow the instructions on the platform to compete. Work published or released in the period 1 July 2022 to 30 July 2023 (inclusive) will be eligible for the 45th edition. In the category non-fiction book, works that were edited between 1 January and 31 December 2022 will be eligible. 

The R$50.00 fee (fifty reais) per piece of work submitted, is a way of showing commitment to the society and those working on disseminating this historic award. The fee collected as a solidarity contribution will help the organisers to honour the commitment made to the partners and suppliers involved in putting on this year´s event.

CALENDAR

  • Regulations and Submissions: access here
  • Registration period: 1 to 31 July 2023
  • Public judging session and announcement of the winners: Tuesday 10 October, with live broadcast
  • Discussion group with the winners and the Awards Ceremony: Tuesday 24 October, Tucarena, in São Paulo.
