Organizations have sent a statement to the Human Rights Council drawing attention to the vaccine monopoly in rich countries. According to the document, rich countries are prioritizing commercial interests at the expense of human rights and solidarity among nations.

Signed by 58 organizations, the statement points out that 10 countries have administered 75% of all Covid-19 vaccines.

It supports asking countries and pharmaceutical companies to prevent monopolies on vaccine production, while encouraging the free sharing of all information, data and inputs in the fight against the coronavirus.

“We demand that the Human Rights Council and all States take a stance against the further proliferation of a neocolonial, neoliberal world order where profits are prioritized over people,” concludes the document.
