In the midst of the election of the next Executive Secretary of the IACHR (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the OAS), one hundred international organizations, among them Conectas, emphasized the importance of the election process being public and transparent, since they believe that this is an extremely important appointment for the promotion and protection of human rights on the continent. The mandate begins in August 2016 and lasts for four years.

The organizations also stressed in a public statement the importance for the new secretary to be independent, have high moral authority and recognized experience in human rights. Moreover, they ask that IACHR make public all material information on the profiles of the candidates and the selection criteria.
