Vladimir Herzog Award 2019: The list of Winners

Awards to be presented on 24 October, at 8pm, in Tucarena, preceded by a Discussion Session with the winning journalists

In a public session, on Thursday 11 October, the Vladimir Herzog Journalism Award for Amnesty and Human Rights Organising Committee announced the winning work for the 41st edition of the award. As in previous years, judging took place at the Municipal Chamber in São Paulo and was broadcast live on the internet.

In 2019 the Herzog Award upheld its record for the number of pieces of journalism work submitted and accepted for analysis by the jurors. Six hundred and ninety two pieces of work were sent by journalists, artists and photographic reporters from around the country. The categories were Art (illustrations, editorial cartoons, cartoons, caricatures and cartoon strips, Photography, Text Journalism, Video Journalism, Audio Journalism and Multimedia Journalism.

Judging was split into two phases: the first was the selection process and this year there were 33 jurors, from almost every state in the country; the second phase is the awards ceremony, formed of leaders and representatives from the institutions organising the award.

The award ceremony will be on Thursday 24 October at 8pm in Tucarena, in São Paulo and will be preceded by a Discussion Session with the award-winning journalists for them to exchange their experiences during the planning and execution of the winning pieces of work. This will be from 2pm to 6pm.
