Event to discuss the repression and criminalisation of protests

The discussion will take place in São Paulo, on 19/07 and among those present will be the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association, Clément Nyaletsossi Voule.



What is the importance of the right to protest in society and how has the judiciary system been acting with regards to this right? The purpose of the discussion at the event, next Thursday (19) in São Paulo, will centre around “The repression and criminalisation of the right to protest and to human rights”. The principal legislative initiatives aimed at restricting freedom of expression in the context of protests, will be discussed throughout the debate.

Among those attending will be the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and Association, Clément Nyaletsossi Voule, Fabiana Severo from the Brazilian Public Defender’s Office and the President of the National Human Rights Council, Ester Solano, Professor at UNIFESP and Carlos Weis, Coordinator of the Human Rights Department of the São Paulo State Public Defender’s Office.
