On Monday (17), Conectas reported the difficulty faced by girls when attempting to access legal abortion services in Brazil. This was the subject of a denunciation at the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council, held in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to the organization, in 2023, over 13,000 girls who were victims of rape became mothers. “Most rape victims are black girls”, the entity states.

In its text, the organization reinforces the importance of Resolution 258, passed in 2024 by the National Child and Adolescent Rights Council, which acknowledges that children and adolescents have the right to receive information, to have their privacy preserved and to take part in decisions on their reproductive health.

“As a way to enforce recommendations from UN treaty bodies, we ask the Council to urge Brazil to implement Resolution 258, expand legal abortion services and eliminate barriers faced by rape victims”, the denunciation concludes.
