The meeting, organized between November 17 and 19 in São Paulo, was attended by 40 participants and discussed the role of civil society in the implementation of mechanisms to guarantee the rights of people with disabilities, as provided for in article 33 of the convention.
The group is preparing to draft an alternative report to the one prepared by the Brazilian government on the rights of people with disabilities. This document is intended to identify the challenges of guaranteeing these rights and should be delivered to the UN in 2011.
