Beginning in 2011, Conectas Human Rights, the Instituto Sou da Paz and the Pastoral Carcerária prison program will together monitor Brazilian public policies in relation to criminal justice. This project, which is supported by the Open Society Foundation, will have permanent representation in Brasília to keep track of the actions of the legislative, judiciary and executive branches on this issue. One of the primary goals of the initiative is to raise the transparency and the quality of information produced in the federal arena, since many of the problems encountered in the prison system derive from public policies adopted on the federal level.
