The human rights activists Hadi Ghaemi and Parvin Ardalan were in Brazil from February 21 to 24. The purpose of their visit was to rally support for Brazil to condemn the human rights violations committed by the Iranian government. The expectation is for Brazil to co-sponsor the resolution that creates the mandate for a Special Rapporteur on Iran at the next session of the UN Human Rights Council, to be held in Geneva from February 28 through March 25. Conectas accompanied the activists in meetings with the Special Advisor to the President on Foreign Affairs Marco Aurélio Garcia, with Ambassador Vera Lúcia Barrouin Crivano Machado (Ministry of Foreign Relations) and with the International Advisory Body of the Office of Human Rights. Ghaemi and Ardalan also met with members of the lower house of Congress and with representatives of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), human rights NGOs and the labor union movement in Brasília and São Paulo.

Garbeloto was being held at the now defunct internment facility of Franco da Rocha, when he was stabbed by other inmates. The figure set by the court refers to the updated amount of compensation for moral and material damages.
