September 30, 2011
We are now less than a month away from the 11th International Human Rights Colloquium! At this stage, staff at Conectas are making the final preparations to receive
50 human rights advocates from 30 countries in the Global South, who were selected to participate in the event that will take place between November 5 and 12 in São Paulo (Brazil).
Throughout September, the participants and staff at Conectas spent their time reading up in preparation for the event. It was an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the topics that will be discussed at the Colloquium, whose theme this year is “Implementation of Regional and International Human Rights Decisions and Recommendations”, and it also allowed the participants to interact before the event.
Just like in previous years, the Colloquium is expected to produce a horizontal dialogue between the speakers and participants, in addition to providing a venue for them to share their experiences and knowledge. The Colloquium aims to contribute to the formation of new networks of contacts and to strengthen those that already exist among human rights movements in the Global South. (Click

This year, there is a new development: the colloquium will also be simultaneously translated into
French! Until 2010, the official languages of the event were Portuguese, English and Spanish. The inclusion of French has allowed human rights advocates from French speaking countries to participate in the colloquium. For the first time, it will be attended by people from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Morocco.
Staff at Conectas are eagerly looking forward to the Colloquium! To find out more about the event, click
