Seminar aims to share the knowledge produced by the Criminal Justice Network over the past two years
The Center for Studies on Crime and Punishment of the São Paulo Law School (Direito-GV) staged the seminar “Pre-trial detention in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo” on June 15. The event was intended to contribute to the debate on more efficient public policies related to criminal justice in Brazil and, more specifically, to pre-trial detention.
The purpose was to discuss, with actors from the criminal justice system, the data produced by the various different research projects conducted by members of Brazil’s Criminal Justice Network with civil society organizations, law students, public agents and other interested parties.
Organizers
The Criminal Justice Network has, since 2010, been developing projects that challenge the abusive use of pre-trial detention in Brazil. The network produces data on the matter, with the intention of proposing measures for the criminal justice system to operate more efficiently while respecting the rights of all citizens.
