Judicial decision guarantees Conectas access to administrative procedure on discrimination against child with Down Syndrome

05/09/2007

Last August, Conectas has obtained an important achievement for the protection of people with disabilities. A judicial decision has granted Conectas access to an administrative procedure which investigates a complaint of discrimination at a São Paulo school.

The complaint, presented by Conectas, reports on the case of a child, with Down Syndrome, who was forced to leave the school she was attending one of the most prestigious schools of São Paulo. It was presented before the Direção de Ensino da Diretoria Centro-Oeste da Região Metropolitana de São Paulo, institution related to the State Secretary of Education, which has initiated an administrative procedure to investigate it.

But, despite of having presented the complaint, Conectas was kept away following the procedure, and had to recur to the Judiciary. With the trial results, the organization will be able to follow the investigation closely and follow up the complaint verification.
