Welcome!
Presentation
The VIII Colloquium seeks to bring together a diverse range of young activists and scholars, interested in acquiring new skills, exchanging experiences and constructing of collaborative human rights networks among nongovernmental organizations, universities and the United Nations.
The annual International Human Rights Colloquium is a one-of-a-kind forum that brings together scores of human rights activists and academics for a week each year to learn from their peers and experts in the field, obtain a fresh perspective on their work, and lay the foundation for professional alliances down the road (networking). The Colloquium creates a multiplier effect that benefits both the participants and their organizations. The objective of the International Human Rights Colloquium is to strengthen the impact of human rights activists and academics in Latin America, Africa and Asia.
The VIII Colloquium offers lectures, seminars and working groups on this year’s Colloquium theme– “60th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Challenges for the Global South”. In the morning sessions, participants will attend lectures, and in the afternoon sessions, they will take part in workshops and working groups. (See Program)
The Colloquium seeks to reinforce the participation of vulnerable groups, therefore, criteria such as race, gender, and regional/social origin will be taken into consideration during the selection process.
Following notification of approval, the selected candidates will have assignments and preparatory readings related to the topics to be discussed during the Colloquium.
To continue working together after the Colloquium, participants will be invited to join the HRDialogue, a network that currently includes more than 600 participants in 53 countries. (See History)
The main supporters of the VIII Colloquium are the Open Society Institute, the Ford Foundation and the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
We are looking forward to receive your applications and seeing you in Sao Paulo!
